Best Highlights and Features of the Journey

The Mardi Himal Trek, as has been defined, is an off-the-beaten-path trek. The trekking trip, therefore, introduces an intact untouched biodiversity of the Himalayas. The Annapurna region is coincidentally one of Nepal’s most naturally rich areas. Because of this, it also provides the opportunity to experience the faunal lives of the region. You can capture glimpses of the mysterious Red Panda, desert pheasants and Danphe birds as you walk through the dense woods. Truly beautiful are the velvety green grasslands and the sight of beautiful terrace farms as you walk. In addition, the Annapurna Mountains landscape, such as Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre, also elevates the atmosphere.

Similarly, the trek begins from Nepal-Pokhara City’s tourist centre. Pokhara is one of the country’s must-visit locations, a wonderful location to relax and enjoy the serenity of the Phewa Lake. The trip from Pokhara then proceeds through distant villages of Rai, Limbu and Chhetri in the middle of hills of rhododendron and meadows of the Himalayas. You will walk through villages such as Phedi and Pothana, from where the amazing view of the Annapurna Mountains is!

In addition, this walk also offers the opportunity to appreciate the people’s local cultural heritage. The towns of Rai and Limbu provide understanding into the varied culture and customs of the mountain indigenous people.

Pothana where you’ll live for the first evening in a guest house lodge. Guesthouse overnight, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 04 - Trek to Forest Camp at Kokar (2,600m) Duration: 4 hrs

You will walk from Pothana to a location called Pitam Deurali. From here, turn away the main Annapurna Sanctuary Trek path and instead take a gentle path through a thick oak, maple and rhododendron forest. We will stay at one of the lodges in a forest clearing at Forest Camp tonight, also recognized as Kokar as it is called by the locals. Kokar’s cottages are quite small and there’s no dining room, so the owner will take serve in the kitchen ; in small respects like this, it’s more like a home stay and it’s a nice chance to get to understand the pleasant Siding Village community. Overnight guesthouse, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 05 - Trek to Low Camp (3,150m) Duration: 5 hrs

The route remains from Forest Camp through the beautiful forest to Low Camp. As we ascend, more rhododendrons coated with moss meadows, lichen and twisted ferns begin to appear in the landscape. There are two basic lodges at Low Camp-one has an open fire dining room. The sight from the Low Camp is just great, with Mount Machhapuchhre visible to the valley. Overnight guesthouse, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 06 - Trek to High Camp (3,600m) Duration: 4 hrs

The path spreads out over the tree line for an hour or so above Low Camp. As such, it offers a nice view of the south of Annapurna and the Hiunchuli Himal south of the trail. The path remains along the ridge of Mardi Himal, mostly on grass, along the route with some secluded bushes of rhododendron. You should check out on this portion of the path for the colourful Danphe pheasants. The High Camp lodge is larger than the Low Camp and Forest Camp lodges ; the one where you’re going to spend the night has a lot of rooms and a separate heated dining room. The view from the lodge of the Annapurna South is pretty wonderful, along with the Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Mountains landscape. Overnight guesthouse, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 07 - Day walk to Upper view point (4,200m) Duration: 4 hrs

Today’s schedule is to rise up soon to see the sunrise in the center of the mountains, then hike up the ridge to Mardi Himal after an quick breakfast. There is a well-established grass trail that also sometimes includes a few steeper parts. It’s not too difficult, though. You can find dzos (yak / cow crossbreds) in the pastures here, as well as Danphe pheasant sputtering over the areas. The sheep and goats from the lower villages are brought up here for grazing in the summer, so you’ll probably pass a number of herder’s huts along the way. You should arrive at the Upper View point at 4,200 meters after three hours ; this is where you can look into the sanctuary of Annapurna. The panoramic view of the Annapurna mountain massif is spectacular as well. Overnight Guesthouse, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 08 - Trek to Siding village (1,750m) Duration: 6 hrs

We’re going to follow another route on the return trek, completing a circuit. There’s a trail leading down from the Low Camp to Siding Village, and we’re instead going to stroll this trail instead of heading back to Kokar down the  Mardi Himal. Siding is a traditional Nepalese village back from busier tourist treks. You are probable to remain at a Siding home possessed by the person operating one of the Low Camp lodges. Overnight guesthouse, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 09 - Trek to Lumre and drive to Pokhara (910m) Duration - 3 hours walking and 2 hours driving
