About

Mustang Tiji Festival Trek

The Tiji festival is a colorful festival that locals who follow the Tibetan Buddhist culture celebrate in Upper Mustang.
The region has succeeded in maintaining its culture and tradition, alone from the rest of the globe. Three days from start of the harvest season Tiji festival is celebrated every year. This festival is celebrated with the conviction to drive the demons away. During this festival, people wear traditional colorful traditional clothes and chant auspicious prayers. As the folklore says, a god named Dorje Jono had to fight against the demon father to save Mustang’s kingdom from all kinds of destruction. The term “Tiji” comes from “ten che,” the literal significance of which is the hope of the dharma that exists throughout the whole globe. This was Guru Rinpoche’s message centuries ago.

During the festival, people gather and show up as various characters. The devils and gods are formed with colorful costumes and horrendous masks. The drama of the God who overcomes the demon is demonstrated, and the demons are driven away. People sing their cultural songs and perform in them. A drama also illustrates the myth of Dorje Jono and his demon’s dad. The festival also stands out because it is a sign of unity. People gather to celebrate their distinctive custom with happiness and treasure.

In fact, the trek Mustang Tiji is a Upper Mustang Trek, but the same trip is a Trek Mustang Festival if you match your hiking dates with the holy season. Mustang Tiji Festival Trek is a superb combination of the mysterious Himalayan scenery. Touring the high-rise walled villages of Mustang through centuries of people’s lifestyles is an amazing experience. The scenery is wild and rocky but the beauty of the wild is unexplainable.
